At the chocolate orchid piano bar
share the words and music where your real friends are
whoa whoa.... let's go

to the chocolate orchid bring your hopes and fears
listen to the songs and maybe drop some tears
get ready, hold steady...

If you come alone you won't be lonely very long
the Chocolate Orchid's cozy as a rule.
be prepared to share the atmosphere of every song
and sip a triple shot of something cool.

At the chocolate orchid piano bar
you're always rubbing elbows with a rising star
lovers of the 88 are who we are
at the Chocolate Orchid Piano Bar.

At the chocolate orchid piano bar,
we're going back in history but not too far
whoa whoa, let's go
The songs you'll hear are from a year you can't put
your finger on
golden oldies, yet brand-spanking new
and if you think you've slipped in some kind of twilight zone
maybe there's a gentler, younger you...

At the chocolate orchid piano bar
let's wander through a byzantine tin pan bazaar
word and music fanciers is who we are
at the Chocolate Orchid ...
at the Chocolate Orchid Piano Bar.

At the chocolate orchid the lights come down
the mood is growing misty and it’s quiet all around
whoa whoa, the show...

NASHVILLE APRIL 5, 2006
TUPPER SAUSSY IN CONCERT
The Chocolate Orchid Piano Bar

Read how it went, see the photos, see the Pre-show Video

A person can be forgiven for thinking Tupper Saussy has retired.   There was that misunderstanding with the IRS, the decade spent on the run and underground, the 14 months served in federal custody.   But as one fan has remarked, "Saussy never ran away, he was put away."   And he certainly never quit making music.

That's why on April 5th at The Basement at Grimey's, all will be right again.   It's then that the man who co-founded the Neon Philharmonic, who along with Don Gant scored the top hit and three times Grammy nominated song "Morning Girl," finally performs again.   Already there's been speculation from fans and music industry types alike over what to expect.   After all, it was Saussy who was creating 21st century melodies and conveying dreamy pop sensibilities long before today's current acts even thought to pick up their instruments.

The Chocolate Orchid Piano Bar is Saussy's gift to any Nashville critic who's ever complained over the rarity of the new and vital emerging from this country town.   Part narrative song cycle, part theatrical cabaret, the compositions contained within this work have brewed inside Saussy for years.   It's at the Chocolate Orchid Piano Bar where lonely hearts and hopeful souls convene, and it's Saussy who, in the romantic beauty of a jazz standard or the heartbreaking sincerity of a country ballad, relays their stories in words and music.

The night promises to be an experience of the rarest sort.   Owner of The Basement, Mike Grimes, is so confident in the work that he bought the club its first permanent piano specifically for the show.   Saussy has long been a musician, and over the years he's added acclaimed watercolorist and author to his creative repertoire.   (In December 2005, Stanford Fine Art hosted a showing of his paintings while Harper Collins published his 3rd book, Rulers of Evil , in 2001.)

With the debut of The Chocolate Orchid Piano Bar, though, Tupper Saussy returns to his origins, and fans--both old and new alike--will understand just how worth a wait it's been these past long years.
